Before I started the one on one coaching programme I was depressed and losing confidence by the day. ​I am a mum with 3 children (one teenage girl and two primary-school aged boys), a wife and I work 30 hours a week in a community-focused job. When I came to see Deanna at the end of last year I had just finished studying at university while working and juggling everything else involved in being a mum, running a household and helping my husband with his business. I had formed some bad habits of drinking too much coffee, not getting adequate sleep and trying to fit too much into one day. During the next 3 months Deanna and I worked together on how to put some things into place to create a more balanced, healthy lifestyle. It wasn't about Deanna giving me the answers, we would talk through how things had gotten to where they were and what changes I thought I needed to make. It was about me taking ownership of what I needed to do so that I was motivated to change rather than someone telling you what to do which doesn't always last. It was also about forming new habits that are good for me and goals where I could see positive outcomes as a result of behavior change.

Through my wellness coaching with Deanna I have significantly reduced my coffee intake, drink a lot more water than I ever have, improved my sleeping habits, manage my schedule a lot better and make time for the things in life that are important to me, including taking time out for myself. When I first talked to Deanna about wellness coaching, I was worried about the extra time it would involve, the cost and what I was going to get out of it. 
 
The first couple of sessions with Deanna were quite intensive and really helped me take stock of my current lifestyle and what changes I wanted to make.  There was no pressure from Deanna, it was very much a consultative approach where we talked about my vision and goals.
 
 I don’t think I would have ever allowed myself the time to reflect and look at my personal goals the way we did.  It felt good to be putting myself first for a change.  It was so worth the investment in time, and it wasn’t expensive.   I really liked being accountable to someone so that I could keep on track.  It was liberating to be able to talk with someone who is as interested in my health and well-being as me!
 
These goals have now become a reality, setting boundaries as a mother, managing others expectations, healthy eating as a family, getting enough sleep, giving myself the time out I need for myself.   It sounds easy enough, but you actually have to break things down on a daily and weekly basis to make the changes. Since having the coaching, I have made some significant changes in my life, my career is looking brighter and I am able to cope better.  I feel more confident and in control, and know the warning signs when I need to take stock and refocus.  Deanna is a great listener and encourager.  It has been a life-changing experience for me.

Initially when I first spoke with Deanna about working with her as my wellness coach I was unsure what a wellness coach was and how I would benefit from it.  I also wondered how I would fit it in and was it going to create more work for me?
